Weekly Photo Challenge: From Above

This photo was taken last year at a brand new church building as they are getting ready for their dedication service; this church at San Jose, Costa Rica was started by our missionaries many years ago. People usually look down instead of look up inside a church, I wondered if they see what I saw on the floor: reflection from above. The architect designed a cross on the roof to let natural light to shine in from above for practical reasons as well as for the symbolic; the cross represents the death of Jesus Christ whom also came from above!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Culture

According to dictionary.com, culture means the quality in a person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent in arts, letters, manners, scholarly pursuits, etc. I snapped this piece art sculpture at Penang, Malaysia a couple weeks ago. I choose this photo for this week’s challenge because it depicts the rich Chinese overseas culture in that city. It was my first time visiting Penang, very picturesque and much slower in pace compare to Hong Kong. I felt a harmonious living environment between the Chinese, Indian, and Malay people and you can be exposed to all three cultures and eat all different kinds of food there at a very reasonable price. It was my first time trying out stingray fish smoked on banana leaf, yummy!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Up

I had many photos that were taken looking up. I long to see the blue and white sky here but due to pollution, bad weather, and the high-rises; it can be difficult most of the time. One day I was walking down a very busy street as I look up and here is what I saw…  stretch of blue sky with some white clouds! Yet I cannot ignore the concrete and glass buildings with their big light fixtures… Oh, look there seems to be a bird flying way up in the sky! How amazing what I can see if I take the time to look up once in a while and whisper a prayer of thanks to God who painted the sky.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Change

We face changes everyday, no matter it is within ourselves or our surroundings. I picked this photo to show change from a time and family perspective. I snapped this because I felt like invading their privacy as this family is relaxing in their changing times. Each house I passed by at the Penang Jetti which are families live close-by each other along a bridge has an altar right inside their front door and their family room is their porch. What was changed? The idol alter for the elderly to the internet for the youth.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Color

Here is a photo that reflects color to me; it was taken inside a store at Penang, Malaysia last week. They sell different colorful things but these clogs are not for sale.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Future Tense

This the  cruise terminal in Hong Kong that is under construction now. Future tense means something that is going to take place in the future no matter near or far. The future is something we look forward to by faith. The light shining through the clouds reminding the promise of Jesus Christ’s return in the future tense. I can live with confidence that Jesus will come as surely as this cruise terminal will be operation soon.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Lunch Time

The Bible said, men shall not live by bread alone… for the Chinese we shall not live by rice alone! I know some people eat rice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This pot of rice was taken during lunch time.

Weekly Photo Challenge: My Neighborhood

This is my neighborhood, I walked by it many times and yes, I did walk in and through it. The people are friendly and the dogs don’t bite they just barked. This is Hong Kong, while I live in concrete high rises and having neighbors living close to nature.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Lost in the Details

It is easy for me to get lost in the details; I love to take photos that can attract others to imagine. From this one I used, what do you think is on the other side of these barbed wires? There seems to be a patch of blue in a cloudy sky; I know for a fact that the sun is always beyond the cloud!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Forward

I was attracted by these wooden pillars by the pier, they look like strong legs moving quietly and steadily forward. I am not going to preach about life from this photo, just enjoy its message whatever it is saying to you. I just recall the movie: “Pay it Forward”
